About Our Members
Established in 2005, the Poverty Law Section of the State Bar of Texas has grown to more than 700 members representing a broad range of legal and professional backgrounds. Our members include attorneys working in legal aid and nonprofit organizations, private practice, state and local government, and academia. The Section also welcomes judges, law students, paralegals, and other professionals whose work aligns with poverty law and access to justice.
Members bring different experiences, perspectives, and approaches to their work. Some focus on litigation and appellate advocacy while others emphasize negotiation, problem-solving, policy, or collaboration. What unites them is a commitment to strengthening the legal profession’s ability to address issues that affect low-income communities and to advancing a justice system that is accessible to everyone.
Members join the Section for many reasons: to stay current on developments in poverty law, connect with colleagues across Texas, share knowledge and resources, participate in continuing legal education, and contribute to the ongoing development of law and policy.
