Our Awards

Each year, the Poverty Law Section recognizes outstanding contributions to poverty law through its Noble Award and Impact Award.

Nominations for both awards are accepted each spring. Our Awards Committee reviews the nominations and recommends recipients to the Section Council, which votes on the final selections. Award recipients are announced and recognized at the Poverty Law Section’s annual meeting, held during the Poverty Law Conference in Austin.

Noble Award: The Noble Award recognizes a Texas attorney whose career reflects a sustained commitment to poverty law and public service. The award honors significant professional accomplishments in expanding access to high-quality legal services for Texans with low incomes or protecting and advancing their legal rights.

Impact Award: The Impact Award recognizes a Texas attorney or poverty law professional whose recent work has made a significant difference in the lives of low-income Texans. The award may recognize an important poverty law case, including an appellate decision, court order, or agency decision, as well as a policy change or other legal achievement that has had a broad impact or provided meaningful relief to individuals and communities.
